Why do people seek therapy?
People come into therapy for many reasons. Some need to respond to unexpected events in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and personal growth. Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping for concerns such as depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, spiritual conflicts, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.
What can I expect during a session?
Simply put, one of our licensed clinicians will talk with you about the things you would like to change to improve your well-being. From there, your clinician will work with you to identify strategies tailored to fit your needs to help you overcome any difficulties. Sessions typically lasts 45 minutes; however, if you are in a crisis or extreme distress session length and frequency may be increased until the crisis has been resolved. In the beginning , your clinician may recommend weekly visits to establish a solid foundation in the therapeutic relationship and process. As you begin to see improvements, you and your clinician will discuss reducing frequency of contact (i.e. biweekly, once a month, and booster/check in sessions). To get the most benefit out of your session, you may be asked to take additional steps in-between sessions such as reading a relevant book or keeping records.
Does therapy always work?
Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. It primarily depends on your motivation and the relationship between you and your clinician. It is essential to form a trusting relationship with your clinician. If you are uncomfortable or just don’t connect with your clinician - that is ok! It is important to share your concerns in a serious, sincere, and open manner. We will work with you to find the right clinician for you whether that is a clinician in the office or outside resources, we are here to ensure you get the assistance you need.
A number of benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. Many find therapy to be beneficial in managing personal growth, relationships, family concerns, and the challenges of daily life. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:
Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy
Finding new ways to cope with stressful experiences
Attaining a better understanding of yourself and your personal goals and values
Decreasing and eliminating anxiety.
Managing anger, depression, and other emotional pressures
Developing skills for improving your relationships
Improving communication skills
Breaking old behaviors and developing new ones
Improving your self-esteem
Is it really confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is basic to therapy! Professional association guidelines plus federal and state laws underscore the importance of confidentiality in therapist-client relationships and govern the release of records. In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and their clinician. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are number of exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:
Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s. The therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
Will this be covered by my health insurance?
Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what Mental Health benefits are covered and if our providers are in-network.
If your visit isn't covered by insurance, our therapists offer various cash pay rates. For more information on rates and insurance please click here.
Why do you require a credit card to make an appointment?
In order to serve as many people as we can, we require 24 hour notice for any and all cancellations. This gives us some time to fill that slot so others who are waiting to be seen have an opportunity.
